Last 2 Weeks Task

1.    Causes of air pollution

·         Emissions from industries and manufacturing activities
-There are long tubes (called chimneys) erected high into the air, with lots of smoke and fumes coming out of it. Waste incinerators, manufacturing industries and power plants emit high levels of carbon monoxide, organic compounds, and chemicals into the air. This happens almost everywhere that people live. Petroleum refineries also release lots of hydrocarbons into the air.
·         Burning Fossil Fuels
-After the industrial age, transportation has become a key part of our lives. Cars and heavy duty trucks, trains, shipping vessels and air planes all burn lots of fossil fuels to work. Emissions from automobile engines contain both primary and secondary pollutants.
-Fumes from car exhaust contain dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons and particulates. On their own, they cause great harm to people who breathe them. Additionally, they react with environmental gases to create further toxic gases.
·         Household and Farming Chemicals
-Crop dusting, fumigating homes, household cleaning products or painting supplies, over the counter insect/pest killers, fertiliser dust emit harmful chemicals into the air and cause pollution.

2.    Advantages of using the Internet

·         Assortment of Information
-Lots of information of different kinds is kept on the web server on the Net.  This means that millions web sites include various data in the shape of images and text.  On every subject of the planet information can be easily collected by you. For this function, special sites, called search engines can be found on the Internet to search data of each and every subject of the planet.
·         On line Medical Guidance
-Several web sites will also be on the Web to obtain details about various conditions.  You are able to consult with a cell of on-line physicians to obtain guidance about any medical problem.  In addition, lots of material can also be on the Web for research in medical industry.

3.    Effect of Gambling

·         Impact on Families
-The most common problem is the loss of money. Savings, property or belongings may suddenly be lost. This kind of money crisis makes the family feel scared, angry and betrayed.
·         Emotional Problems and Isolation
-Family members may feel ashamed, hurt, afraid, angry, confused and distrustful. These feelings make it harder to solve problems.
-Many partners do not want to be emotionally or physically close with the person who has hurt them.
·         Physical and Mental Health
-Anxiety, depression and stress-related problems such as poor sleep, ulcers, bowel problems, headaches and muscle pains.
·         Burnout
-One member may try to keep things in control by taking on more tasks. This can lead to burnout.
-Family members often focus on the person with gambling problems, and forget to take care of themselves or to have fun.
·         Impact on Children
-Children can feel forgotten, depressed and angry and they may believe they caused the problem.
-Children take care of younger brothers or sisters, or try to support their parent. This responsibility causes children stress.
-Children may also believe they must take sides between their parents. They may stop trusting a parent who makes promises he or she doesn’t keep.
·         Physical and Emotional Abuse
-Family violence is more common when families are in crisis.
·         Anxiety and Depression
-This can make sleeping, thinking and solving problems more difficult.
·         Suicide Risk
-The people most likely to attempt suicide are those who also have a mental health problem (such as depression) or who use alcohol or other drugs. People who have threatened suicide or hurt themselves in the past are also more at risk.

4. Importance of being frugal

·         Frugality inspires an attitude of gratitude and contentment
-Frugal living makes you appreciate what you have and helps you to realise that you are blessed to have it, even if it’s not the newest luxury what-not. This makes for a far more content life, rather than a life spent straining and whining for the latest thing.
·         You gain a better perspective on what “enough” really is
-Frugal living teaches you that “enough” is not the newest luxury car, but a functional car (or no car at all, if you live in an area where that’s possible). “Enough” is not the latest gadget, but a loving family and food on the table. It helps you realise that you probably have “enough” and that there are a lot of people who don’t.
·         You’re teaching the next generation.
-If you model a frugal lifestyle for your kids, chances are they’ll go on to live a more frugal lifestyle and teach their kids the same. You can’t beat giving your kids a head start on good money management skills at a young age.
·         You become more creative
-Making do with what you have and reducing spending requires you to more creative to get the most out of what you have.
·         It teaches the art of compromise
-Frugal people learn that you can’t always have everything you want, but you can have some of what you want. The daily compromise between buying store brand ketchup and name brand, or between buying a new bedspread and mending the old one, all so you can have more money for something else, teaches us how to compromise to get more of what we really want.

5. Reasons for learning a foreign language

·         Brain Fitness
-Recent medical studies bring attention to the positive effects learning a foreign language has on the health of the human brain. Studies by York University of Alzheimer's patients demonstrated that those who were bilingual had a significant delay in the onset of the disease compared to their monolingual counterparts. Other studies concerning the health of monolingual and bilingual patients' brains showed that the effects of dementia were less advanced in bilingual patients even though their brains showed more brain damage as a result of the disease.
·         Job Preservation
-Knowledge of a foreign language is equally useful for maintaining employment, particularly in industries where companies look to relocate business or expand into other markets. This is because downsized or outsourced employees who speak the language of the country where the company plans to relocate can gain an advantage in the race to be appointed to a post in the new location. Knowledge of the language of the region where your company is expanding into new markets can make you indispensable to the success of the business as you bridge the cultural gap between the two locations.
·         Family Ties and Networks
-Knowing a foreign language can help keep your extended family intact while also expanding your network of contacts. For example, if your family came to the United States during World War II from Germany, you may also have family members who remained in Germany and others who migrated to places like Argentina and Chile; therefore knowing Spanish and German will help you stay in contact with those family members and will also be useful in conducting any genealogical research about your ancestry. On social networking sites, members speak many languages and live all over the globe; knowing another language permits you to reach people who would not necessarily be in your network due to the difference in language. This enlarges the geographical scope of your relationships and enables you to expand your business and personal contacts.
·         Additional Compensation
-Some employers are willing to offer additional compensation to employees who have verifiable foreign language competency, particularly if such languages are in high demand like Arabic, Urdu or Farsi. For example, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Language Services Section is dedicated to providing linguists across the law enforcement community to offer translation and other language services. The FBI has developed a special program -- Foreign Language Incentive Pay -- that awards additional compensation to employees who have certified foreign language proficiency in critical foreign languages.
