Argumentative Essay

Title: Should students be allowed to grade their teachers?

The Ministry of Education has launched a new education policy where teacher’s evaluations are based on their student’s assessment. This is to improve our education system as well as due to the high demands of qualified teachers in school. A good teacher will produce excellent students in which will help our country developed in future. Apart from this, the policy has its own advantages and disadvantages.

One of the advantages is given an opportunity to the students to decide whether their teacher is proficient. Usually children at a young age are innocent. They cannot hide their true feelings. By doing the assessment based on their  feedback, the effectiveness of a teacher can be easily predicted. Besides, it gives the students a platform to voice out their thoughts and opinion. As a result, the school will be stricter in choosing a qualified teacher for the students.

The enhancement of teaching skills will then be the main objective for teachers nowadays. They will try to improve their teaching methods as they cannot easily scold and punish the students. They need to learn how to handle a class without violence. At the same time, it also helps them to become friendlier with the students.

As the policy also has disadvantages, one of them is the teacher’s achievement are fully depended on the evaluation. If they want a stable posting and salary, they need to be friendly to the students. Students who like them definitely will give them a better grade. As an impact, they are not fully assessed because they only evaluated based on the student’s acceptance not their own quality and ability. What is worst is that the students may grade them according to their appearances.

Besides, the students are not mature enough to grade their teachers. Those teachers who like to give punishment will get a bad result as the students do not like them. If the teachers want to scold the students, they will think twice because they know any act will effects on their evaluation mark. In the end, it is not possible for a rise in the discipline problems in school.

As a conclusion, the changes that happen to our education system today will bring along some pros and cons. It is not reluctant that it may improve our teacher’s proficiency but if the system is going to be applied, the Ministry of Education need to do more research on its efficiency. It can be a good effort but it is still a new system where the effectiveness is unknown.
